Cream Cheese Icing

Cream Cheese Icing

I'm often not a fan of icing or frosting because a lot of the times, they can be too sweet and overpowering. However, when it comes to cream cheese icing, I could honestly eat it straight from a bowl! T

his one especially because it has just the right amount of sweetness to it and such a lovely cinnamon flavor.

Ingredients for cream cheese icing

Making this cream cheese icing is so easy and only takes around 10 minutes! It makes for the best creamy, sweet and tangy cream cheese and one that pairs perfectly with anything from carrot cake, red velvet cake to cinnamon rolls. Here's your grocery list:

  • Cream cheese: This is one just makes sense! But feel free to use your favorite cream cheese brand. We like to use those on the creamier side.
  • Butter: You can't have this icing with butter and this is what will make it extra creamy.
  • Powdered sugar: Given it some thickness and a bit of sweetness, powdered sugar is a must.
  • Vanilla extract or paste: Ok all of these are must but just go for a higher quality vanilla extract for this one.
  • Ground cinnamon: Our not-so secret ingredient! We love having that hint of cinnamon and it makes for a more beautiful looking cream cheese.
  • Kosher salt: Will add depth to the cream cheese and balance all that sweetness out.

Our biggest tip is to make sure that you fully incorporate each cube of butter one by one before adding the next. This will ensure that it mixes thoroughly and it creates a smooth, creamy icing.

How to use cream cheese icing

So many cakes and baked good pair wonderfully with cream cheese icing. Some of our favorites include:

Cheers and eat well!

  • 4 ounces butter (room temp) (diced)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

  2. Once the mixture is softened (about 3-5 minutes), stop the machine and scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl and the paddle to ensure all cream cheese is being mixed. Continue to mix the mixture for another minute.
  3. While mixing on a medium speed, add the butter, one piece at a time, being sure that each piece is completely mixed into the cream cheese before adding another.
  4. Once fully incorporated, stream in the powdered sugar, while continuing to mix on low speed until everything comes together. Taste for seasoning and use accordingly.
